Commercial

The growing number of computers and other sophisticated electronic equipment in the
workplace has dramatically changed mechanical requirements for commercial and office
buildings. Many companies now require office space equipped with high capacity HVAC
systems, precise humidity and temperature controls, halon fire protection, and other
specialized systems.
The John E. Green Company has extensive experience with all types of commercial and
office building projects. We undertake many projects on a design/build basis, planning
mechanical and fire protection systems to meet the criteria of owners and architects.
On all projects, John E. Green emphasizes value engineering, consulting closely with
the owner's engineers to ensure maximum savings and efficiency in the design and
installation of all mechanical systems.

The International Headquarters for K-Mart Corporation is designed on a unique
modular configuration. John E. Green Company served as mechanical contractor for a major
expansion that added nine new modules to double the facility's total square footage. Each
module has an independent air conditioning and heating system.

The Comerica building in Auburn Hills serves as the computer nerve center for the
bank's total statewide operations. John E. Green supplied all major mechanical systems for
the 3-story building, including boilers, air conditioning units, cooling towers, and a
4,000-head sprinkler system. Energy-efficient variable speed drives were installed on all
air-handling equipment. The drives were FCC rated to safeguard against radio frequency
emissions that could affect the computer databanks.

John E. Green provided complete design/build services for mechanical systems in the
Ann Arbor headquarters for Group 243 advertising agency. The unique interior plan of the
building allowed insufficient space for the plumbing, heating and ventilation systems as
originally specified. We re-designed the entire system to fit the available space.

Temperatures and humidity in the Michigan Bell Computer Center must remain constant
within ±1° to protect sensitive electronic equipment. We installed a special Liebert air
conditioning system engineered to those tolerances. We also provided a halon fire
protection system for this area.

The John E. Green Company has provided all mechanical systems and fire protection
for several construction phases of the Dow Corning headquarters in Midland, Michigan. Our
projects have included a new laboratory building and two new office buildings, one of them
the Corporate Headquarters shown here.
